We have our first new #1 of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs! Even though the former #1 Dolphins got the win this week over Atlanta, the Chiefs dominance on defense edged them ahead. The Seahawks expected domination of Jacksonville left them at #3, while the Bears moved up to #4 as the Patriots fell to #5.
On the bottom side of things, the NFC East is having a rough year, but don’t worry, that won’t stop most media outlets from talking about that division twice as much as any other: “What’s wrong with the Giants? Is RG3 having a sophomore slump? Chip Kelly doesn’t have the pieces he needs! How ’bout them Cowboys. At 2-1 with wins over an 0-3 team and Rams, they look like Super Bowl contenders!” On that note, the Redskins and Giants sit at the bottom of the ranks, behind Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota, who have looked awful as well.
The biggest gainers this week were the Ravens, who jumped 13 spots to #8 after crushing Houston. They were followed by the above-mentioned Cowboys. The biggest losers were the Rams, who fell 11 spots after getting crushed by the Cowboys. The Texans and Chargers also fell 9 spots. Special recognition goes the to 49ers, who fell from #2 to #26 over a 2-week period. My ranks have been surprisingly good at predicting things early in the season, so I think the Niners could be on track for a 6-10 season at best. The Super Bowl loser curse strikes again.
